Can anyone from Scotland help me think up some Scottish names for my new Shetaland Sheepdog puppies?
I'm from America and my female Shetalnd Sheepdog, Emma had 4 pups last night and they are so cute! I also have the Dad and his name is Toby. I know neither name is Scottish but I'd like to name my pups with authentic Scottish names (male and female). Are Shetland Sheepdogs (we call them "Shelties") popular ini Scotland? THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS!

- You could name them after one of the Shetland Islands. The main ones are called "yell" "unst" "fetlar" "papa" "whalsay" "mousa" "fair isle" and "mainland". ( I wouldnt recommend mainland) Lerwick is the main town in the Shetlands and could be a good dog name. If you wanted something very shetlandic you could go for "Jarl" after the viking warriors who ruled Shetland or "Helly" after "up helly ah" the big shetlandic fire festival.
- I hope after this you get our dogs fixed there are so many dogs already out there whio don't have homes take care of those before you breed more for no reason and (tons of people call them shelties) But here are some scottish names use these links

- I'd suggest Hamish and/or Bobby (as in Greyfriars Bobby) for males, and Heather and/or Skye for females.
- hoopy,scottybhoy,angus,morag,glen,braveheart
- LASSIE of course is a favourite for a shetland collie after the dog in the movies but how about Glen for the boy or you could have some lovely Gaelic names
Breagha (Beautiful) for the girl (BReea)
Dileas (Faithful)for the Boy (jeelas)
Froach (heather)girl (frooach)
Ceo (mist) boy (Kaw (pronounced like Jaw)
- I'm Scottish and I have two border collie males called Jock and Gyp. Both suits the dogs, and that is the most important thing about a name. Other good examples are:
Tweed
Glen
Skye
Meg
- poppy
heather
cuilin
lednock
